President Park Geun-hye began her China itinerary upon arriving in Beijing on the morning of Sept. 2. As the first item on her itinerary, President Park and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral summit where they had in-depth discussions about various issues involving the Korean Peninsula, including North Korea. Later in the day, they held a special luncheon.

President Park Geun-hye and Chinese President Xi Jinping held summit talks in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Sept. 2. The two leaders discussed ways to develop Korea-China cooperation and how to deepen the friendly, bilateral relationship that exists between the two nations.

President Xi told President Park that, "On behalf of the Chinese government, I would like to thank you for attending the celebration ceremony in honor of the 70th anniversary of the end of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Both Korea and China fought against the invasions of imperialism and colonialism and achieved independence at last after fighting for their lives."

President Xi said, “Thanks to support from both President Park and me, the Korea-China relationship has become the best-ever national relationship in history. Some examples in this include the conclusion of the Korea-China free trade agreement (FTA) and Korea’s membership of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. ”

Regarding the bilateral relationship, he further hoped that, “Both countries could work together toward world peace.”

President Park told the Chinese leader that, "As the two countries together underwent a time of great adversity during the past century, such history has become a precious foundation for the friendship of both nations. I hope Korea and China can successfully cooperate in order to solve various issues we will face in the future.”

In regard to recent tension on the Korean Peninsula, President Park told her Chinese counterpart that, "I would like to thank China for its constructive role in closely communicating with us in order to resolve the latest tension on the Korean Peninsula.”
