LG Chem and Samsung SDI, South Korea’s two major battery makers, will showcase their latest energy storage system (ESS) products at the Intersolar 2015, the largest renewable energy exhibition in Europe.

ESS is a system designed to absorb energy and store it for a period of time for later use in order to improve energy efficiency and to stabilize operations of the electricity grid.

LG Chem said on Tuesday that it will unveil its home ESS “RESU6.4 EX” at the exhibition and introduce it to overseas markets in partnership with Germany’s Baywa R.E and Australia’s Solar Juice. RESU6.4 EX, which is designed to connect to residential solar panels, has a maximum battery capacity of 12.8kWh. Its compact design suitable for residential usage reduces its volume and weight by 25% and 50% respectively compared to the previous version.

Samsung SDI also announced its participation in the Intersolor 2015 where it will unveil its new 8.0kWh All-in-One product. The company said its All-in-One home ESS is a customized product to a specific number of European countries such as Germany and Austria where residential houses receive electricity from three different lines from power plant. Samsung SDI will also unveil its other new products with different capacities such as 5.5kWh and 7.2kWh ESSs.
