KEPCO announced on the 6th that they transferred its world’s first digital substation testing IEC 61850 client test system to American smart grid testing agency QualityLogic. KEPCO and QualityLogic signed a technology transfer contract on IEC 61850 client testing system and IEC 61850 virtual server system in attendance of relevant officials from both companies in San Diego Convention Center on the 3d last month.

Previously American and European companies have been transferring technologies, but KEPCO has been successfully developed digital substation technologies over a decade of R&D activities and secured world class digital substation testing systems.

Unlike the previous analogue systems, latest digital substations are required to meet the IEC61850 standards, and KEPCO exported the testing programs to see whether digital devices work properly to IEC61850 regulations. Previously KEPCO has transferred the technologies to the Korea Testing Laboratory in August in 2013 and 6 other established heavy electric equipments companies in Korea to build the strong ground to enter the global market.

KEPCO’s latest technology resolves the compatibility issues in the smart grid industry with the IEC61850, projecting rosy outlook for regenerative energy, electric vehicle, AMI and ESS areas.
